Abstract

From the Introduction:

"This is a guide to selected CSIRO governance and historical records digitised as part of the CSIRO History Project based in the Centre for Transformative Innovation at Swinburne University of Technology from 2016-2023. These records are now all managed by CSIRO.

The collection contains an impressive array of documents and research notes, largely assembled by the former CSIR/O Historian Professor Boris Schedvin, one of Australia's most distinguished economic and science historians. The collection was assembled to support Professor Schedvin's writing of a second volume to Shaping Science and Industry (Allen & Unwin, 1987) and provides a unique overview of the history of scientific research in Australia in the mid to late 20th century. These materials in the collection comprise internal CSIRO documents and papers, reports, publications, correspondence, reviews, etc. covering a wide range of scientific research areas and spanning from 1903 to 1996.

In July 2017, the CSIRO Board Meeting papers were added to this collection, comprising the records of the CSIRO Board (including agenda, minutes and papers) from the first inaugural CSIRO Board Meeting in December 1986 to the 145th Board Meeting in December 2007.

Between March and May 2018, a complete set of CSIR/O Annual Reports was also added to the collection as well as the records of the CISI and CSIR/O Executive (comprising minutes and papers) from Executive/Executive Committee meetings held between 1926 and 1996.

These records are all now managed by CSIRO. All queries relating to access should be made to: Building 101, Clunies Ross Street Black Mountain ACT 2601 Australia Telephone: +61 3 9545 2176 Email: csiroenquiries@csiro.au "
