This text book was specially published in the 1970s for use as lecture notes given to students attending the "Know your plastics" courses run by the Plastics Institute of Australia Inc. Many thousands of people throughout Australia attended these very successful courses.

The book was revised and reprinted many times over the following 40 years, by the Plastics Industry Association Inc, and the Plastics and Chemicals Industries Association.
