- Abstract
For the purpose of the design of culverts, spillways, storm-water channels, sewers, and works of similar nature, the quantity of water flowing due to rain falling on an area must be found, and, more especially, the maximum rate of flow. In his paper, "The Calculation of Flood Discharges by Means of a Time-Contour Plan," Mr. C. N. Ross has shown by an assumed arithmetical example how discharges may be calculated. In this paper the author proposes to give an analysis and solution of the general problem, particularly for the maximum, and will indicate the application in practice; the engineer can readily modify the deductions to suit his particular case, whether of rainfall discharge from areas or of sewer design.
