- Abstract
The author deals with the question of electric drive and its applicability in connection with the system described. He points out that the Thomas system is not directly reversible, but the purely electric reverse is used for cars, motor buses and the like; while for heavy traction a reversible engine is used, the difficulty of starting up being obviated by the fact that the equipment is designed so that when running in the direct drive a small battery is kept charged. An interesting feature of this article is the reply made by the author to the questions raised during the discussion of the paper by members of the Electrical Association of Australia (Victorian section).
