- Abstract
Probably no subject is of more importance to Victoria at the present time than the work in hand by the Victorian Ports and Harbours Department, of deepening the entrance to Port Phillip. This has been necessitated by the growth of shipping to the port and the increased size of vessels. The author describes the width and depth of the entrance, the "Rip Bank," methods followed in rock blasting and other valuable data. Sir Maurice Fitzmaurice, the English Engineer, has inquired into the scheme, and is submitting a report to the Government.
