- Abstract
The greater proportion of the Melbourne metropolitan area is served by a gravitational system of drainage, but there are a few outlying areas where the sewage has to be lifted into the general system by pumping. For serving these areas small pumping stations with electrically driven plant are being constructed, and the present article describes a typical station, serving the Sunshine district. The installation consists of two 750 gal. per min. vertical-spindle centrifugal pumps driven by motors, housed in a neat pump-house comprising ground floor and basement with suction wells. The total cost of the installation, with rising mains, is £3,562.
