- Abstract
Mechanical vibration of concrete immediately after pouring is being practised on an extensive scale in European countries, and has been found to produce a denser and stronger material, and to result in economy of cement. The whole subject is thoroughly reviewed in this article, in which Mr. Antill records personal experience and observations, dealing with general considerations and fundamental principles, methods of vibration, properties of vibrated concrete, types of vibrating unit, and the influence of vibration on construction methods and on design. The evidence of this article is that vibration constitutes an important advance in concrete practice, and that Australian engineers should give it serious consideration.
