- Abstract
Bridges erected over the tidal reach of the Scamander river on the east coast of Tasmania have had an unfortunate history, mainly due to floods which bring down a great deal of timber. The sixth bridge was built in 1925 and destroyed in 1929. When consideration was being given to the design of a seventh structure a very careful survey of conditions was made, with the result that a high-level, long span bridge has been erected, composed of welded steel trusses on concrete cylinder piers. This article provides a full account of the design and construction of the bridge, with interesting details regarding costs.
