- Description
Retiring President's address by L. F. Loder, MCE MIEAust, to the twenty-eighth Annual General Meeting of The Institution of Engineers, Australia. (At Sydney, on 22nd March, 1948.)
- Abstract
The engineering works carried out by the Commonwealth during the war are described. In particular, the administrative and co-ordinational arrangements to manage the enormously expanded works programme, the personnel, mechanical equipment and materials supply during the war, and the transition to post-war arrangements addressing housing, war-service homes and building research. Major works constructed during the war included: aerodromes, roads, framed buildings, oil storages, maritime structures, power stations, and the Woomera 'Rocket Range'. In time, it is anticipated that information of value gleaned from these and other engineering experiences, might, subject to security rulings, be passed on.
