- Abstract
A meeting of historical importance in the progress of engineering in the Commonwealth of Australia was held on Tuesday, 26th March, 1929, when members of the Electrical Engineering Branches of Melbourne and Sydney Divisions of the Institution, assembled in the Kelvin Hall of the Allied Societies Trust Buildings, Melbourne, and in the Electrical Department of the Peter Nicol Russel School of Engineering, University of Sydney, respectively, for the purpose of participating in a joint meeting made possible by recent developments in Post Office Engineering.
The meetings in the two centres were held simultaneously, and with the aid of the carrier telephone system, and loud speakers, the business of the joint meeting was transacted with complete success, and under entirely novel conditions. Capacity houses were obtained at both centres; in fact, in Sydney it was necessary to arrange an overflow meeting.
[The proceedings were also broadcast by radio on 3AR, Melbourne and 2FC, Sydney.]
