Abstract

As a. result of the enlargement of Lake Eildon to a capacity of 2,750,000 acre feet, and other works, increased quantities of water have been made available for use within the Goulburn-Murray Irrigation District in northern Victoria. The State Rivers and Water Supply Commission is proceeding with an extensive programme of channel enlargement and remodelling which involves the construction of several hundred short bridges and other structures. Apart from the construction of new bridges and regulators deterioration of existing red gum structures, some of which are nearly seventy years old, has made necessary their replacement with new structures.
