Abstract

The Melbourne and metropolitan board of works constructed the Silvan reservoir a few years ago, for storage of water received from the O'Shannassy river and other tributaries of the Yarra. The outlet from the reservoir discharged into a channel and pipeline for conveying water to the city, which had formed portion of the originaI O'Shannassy system and were not of sufficient capacity to enable full benefit to be obtained from the Silvan storage. Works were undertaken, therefore, to considerably increase the capacity of the channel and lay a new pipeline, and these are described herein.
