Description

This paper, No.479, originated in the Sydney Division of The Institution.

Abstract

The paper deals with some of the economic problems met with in the design and operation of a system of water supply reticulation. For this purpose, a new method of graphical comparison of economic alternatives has been developed, which is applicable to various types of engineering work. Its use for cast iron water mains is illustrated in detail, and the practical conclusions drawn therefrom for Sydney Water Supply are set out.
