- Abstract
This paper presents results of surveys of attitudes of Australian students, academic staff and employers, participating in cooperative education programmes. Results of surveys of employers who have not participated in cooperative programmes are also presented. The attitudes of the various groups are compared with each other and, in some cases, with the attitudes of American and British participants in cooperative programmes. Particular attention is given to engineering courses. It is concluded that all groups surveyed see cooperative education programmes in engineering as providing an educational experience more appropriate to the preparation of graduates in engineering than full-time courses. The beneficial effect of work experience on academic performance is also demonstrated.
