- Abstract
The history of wilderness conservation in Australia post 1946.
Over many decades the campaigns to establish national parks throughout Australia embraced wilderness conservation as its central organising theme. If it were not for these many, often sustained and determined efforts, mostly by volunteers, wilderness would not have been protected.
This book is an authoritative historical account of these struggles, with chapters dedicated to each state. It will appeal to those interested in Australia's wilderness, national parks and the political history of nature conservation. It offers lessons from past efforts and outlines the need to establish wild river protection and a national wilderness system that respects Aboriginal interests.
Geoff Mosley initiated the National Wilderness Conference series and wrote the ACF Viewpoint on Wilderness Conservation. He has been awarded life membership of the Colong Foundation in recognition for his outstanding contribution to wilderness conservation.
