- Abstract
The paper surveys the analysis and the development of the present methods. The materials and techniques used in model-making are described, and a number of models made in the writer's laboratory are illustrated. These include models of projects for the Granville R.S.L. Club (a reinforced concrete folded plate dome) and the Chevron Sydney Stage Two Project (a 36-storey steel frame). The methods of taking measurements and the interpretation of results are discussed. In direct model analysis deflections are obtained more easily than stresses. The cost of model analysis increases rapidly with size, but worthwhile results about the elastic behaviour of the structure can be obtained with small models.
