- Description
This Paper, No. 344, originated in the Melbourne Division of the Institution.
- Abstract
This paper covers the theory for the design of high earth-fill dams, describing the materials used and the methods adopted to ensure safety, and economical construction. The Silvan dam is described in detail, including a consideration of the drainage by means of a novel form of cellular core wall. Costs for day-labour and contract work on this dam are compared.
The Appendix includes a list of the earth-fill dams of the world, of 100 ft. and over, with remarks on cases where failure has occurred.
