Abstract

This paper discusses the relaxation characteristics of high-tensile steel tendons available in Australia for prestressed concrete construction, and especially the effects of temperature, initial stress, pre-stretching and re-stressing upon this property of the various types of tendon. Relevant test results from local and overseas sources are reviewed, and recommendations are made as to fields in which the author considers that further research is required. Finally, quantitative relaxation values are recommended for adoption in current designs.
