- Abstract
With the emergence of AUSSAT, Australia stands at the threshold of an important new era in which many of the problems of isolation and distance which have defied solution since the days of the first European settlement are at last being conquered by means of satellite communications. AUSSAT too is proving to be a catalyst for change in many other areas and has brought about a resurgence in Australian space and industrial activity. This article tells the AUSSAT story - a story about dramatic changes in Australian telecommunications and space-age developments. It is a story about Australia, pioneered by Australian engineers.
