- Abstract
The town of Echuca has two main claims to fame as part of its unique history. One is its role as a port in the heady days of the steamer trade of last century, and the other is the existence of an unusual iron bridge spanning the Murray River between Echuca and Moama. In considering the theme, "Engineers as Creators of Heritage", I began by thinking of the more important of Echuca's two claims to fame - the paddlesteamers, and tried to find a connecting link between steamers and engineers.
