- Abstract
In 1985, a twin tunnel scheme for Sydney's Eastern Distributor was adopted in principle, with detailed design to follow. It was found that one of the tunnels intersected a water supply tunnel known as Busby's Bore, which was one of the first major civil engineering projects carried out in Australia after colonisation. This paper describes some of the technical issues addressed in an endeavour to preserve the historic bore while still achieving an appropriate standard of tunnel design and construction.
