- Abstract
The Fire Advisory Panel comprises representatives from the professions, regulatory authorities, and the fire protection industry. Its purpose is to advise on appropriate fire protection measures for historic buildings, which will provide adequate fire safety but have minimum effect on their significant fabric. The paper discusses the Panel's work on specific buildings and on general problems applicable to a wide range of buildings, such as upgrading existing timber panelled doors. The result of this work demonstrates that appropriate and cost effective fire protection can be designed to enable historic buildings to continue to be used and enjoyed in safety.
