Abstract

St Helena Island was a penal establishment from 1867 to 1932. It is now a national park historic area managed by the Queensland National Parks and Wildlife Service. As one of three companion papers, this paper describes the history and management of the Island. Management encompasses resource provision, conservation management, infrastructure development and visitor management. It also determines how the various aspects of St Helena, including its engineering history, are to be identified, conserved and presented.
