- Abstract
Although the unit size of power generating plant has risen to 1300 MW in the last one hundred years, there has been very little change in the basic principles since the 1960's. Of course there have been major developments since, although many have been refinements of existing principles. Because there has been much conjecture about who was responsible for many of the achievements, no attempt has been made to speculate as to who they were. This paper traces some of the major milestones in the development of steam plant, and then takes a look at where we are now. Because so much of what is discussed here is historical, the Imperial system of units has been used.
