- Abstract
Two hundred years is but a moment in the life of a civilization, but it represents an enormous time span in the engineering context. Australia has a long period of neglect to uncover, and we urgently need to learn how to handle the engineering heritage which it will disclose. In particular we must find ways of presenting it in a sympathetic and comprehensive fashion without placing intolerable restraints on continuing progress. There is a long way to go, and many nightmares to live through, before we shall be able to say that the problem has been solved.
