- Description
Paper presented at the National Engineering Heritage Conference (12th: 2003 : Toowoomba).
- Abstract
This paper is the brief history of the Middleton Flour Mill (Figure 1) located on the Fleurieu Peninsula of South Australia , and covers the history, operation and ownership of the Mill including the fate of the Tuxford beam engine that survived for almost 100 years. The mill is listed on the Australian Heritage Commissions Register of the National Estate No. 007630 and the South Australian Register. The statement of significance describes it as a"... building of great historic interest and a well known landmark in the area". During a search of the Royal Agricultural and Horticultural Society's archives for information relating to the engineering career of John Wyatt (one of South Australia's first mill/mechanical engineers) papers were discovered relating to the conservation of the mill which provided the impetus for this paper.
