- Abstract
Between 1950 and 2002 the Electricity Commission of New South Wales and its successor Pacific Power supplied electricity to the State. From 1950 to the late 1990s these two organisations photographed their power stations, transmission lines, substations, and employees at work and play. In that period an estimated 188,000+ images were taken. The significance of this collection lies in it being a record of the plant and people involved in NSW power generation and transmission projects in the second half of the twentieth century. This paper uses images from the collection to illustrate a number of power engineering successes and failures from the Electricity Commission's 52 years in power supply, and ends with a discussion of the current activities to conserve this important engineering and social history resource.
