- Abstract
This paper examines the working life of the man and the engineering output of the pioneering Australian engineer Felix Caldwell. His inventions included four wheel drive and four wheel steering of farm and road tractors, plus he applied internal combustion and friction drive to railway locomotives. The paper collates his range of inventions, and asks why are his innovative mechanical designs largely unknown today?
