Abstract

Although traditional archaeological and architectural recording techniques can be applied to engineering sites, structures or objects they are seldom sufficient or adequate on their own. Special problems arise in the recording of industrial processes, particularly when engineering equipment on the site under investigation is capable of operation at the time when the record is being made. In the paper the author draws together the various procedures and techniques which have been found to be particularly applicable in the recording of the engineering heritage and assesses their field of use.
