- Abstract
The Government of Western Australia, from 1898 to 1987, operated Stamp Batteries to assist in opening up gold mining activity within the State. During the 89 years of operation the Government stamp batteries had a chequered history. A very rapid increase in stamp battery numbers at the beginning of the century and a long slow decline. Western Australia, unlike any other State in Australia provided these treatment facilities to assist the prospectors in the discovery of gold.
