- Abstract
For almost a decade now the Department of Transport, Queensland has been active in researching, collecting, preserving and exhibiting its heritage, and towards this a considerable collection of machinery, photographs, documents and memorabilia has been gathered from within the Department, Local Authorities and the community. Complementing the collection is an oral history program with 43 interviews recorded, indexed and processed to a library presentation standard for research by future historians. Consequently the Department is developing a Transport Museum in Toowoomba, expected to be operational by September 1996. The Museum, designed primarily to portray the Department's history, will be developed as a research and educational facility for school and community groups. The author has been involved with this heritage program, part-time since 1987 and full-time from February 1993.
