- Abstract
In the mountains of North West Nelson is a powerstation unique in the history of New Zealand hydro-electric schemes. Cobb Station has the highest hydraulic head (almost 600m) was the scene of New Zealand's first seismic and magnetic survey for dam foundations, has the country's first high earth dam (over 30m), first piezometer system for testing pure water pressure, first exceptionally long transmission line span (1.3 km) and was the first with radiographic testing of penstock welds.
