- Abstract
The administrative processes leading up to the demolition of the Union Hill Mine Quartz Roasting Kilns at Maldon are reviewed. The dismantling and archaeological recording of the kilns are described. The inadequacies of the administrative process are highlighted and a more rational approach is suggested. The approach suggested argues for the use of the Burra Charter process for the conservation of Victoria's significant historic mining features and sites.
