- Abstract
Tower windmills built in Tasmania during last century were a rarity and all but one have been completely demolished. Callington Mill at Oatlands, built in 1837, operated as a flour producing mill until circa 1890. It was burnt out in the early 1900's and remained in a state of deteriorating disuse until some preservation works were carried out in 1976. Major restoration works were completed in 1988, including the construction of floors, ladders and 'Ogee' cap. Future restoration works will hopefully restore Callington to its former working condition.
