- Abstract
The conflict that is arising between government heritage legislation and mining engineering is explained. The nature of engineering heritage is explored with reference to mining traditions to show that present heritage legislation often is actually destroying real heritage. It is also often poor historical method and results in a failure to properly interpret relics. It is argued that engineers should be involved in the assessment and management of relics associated with their heritage.
