- Abstract
The Customs House is an important and spectacular part of Brisbane's built heritage. For several decades following its opening in 1889, it played a central role in the commercial life of the city. After a history of modification and a short period of dis-use, the building was restored and adapted for re-use in 1994. This paper provides an overview of the history and significant features of the building. It highlights some features of engineering interest including foundations, retaining walls and drainage.
