- Abstract
Crushed rock for concrete or road construction is one of the primary materials of all civil engineering work. Winning the stone and crushing it to useful products is a fascinating field of engineering and has developed from gaol work, through early mechanisation, to modern high performance production plants Winston's Lunn Ave Quarry was opened in a basalt lava field, about 5 miles from the centre of Auckland City, in 1936. Since that time it has been the main source of supply of aggregate for the City and Region and thus an important factor in the building of modem Auckland.
