Summary

Ian Stewart was foundation professor of chemical engineering at the University of Newcastle from 1965 to 1977. Before that he was chief engineer at Hepburn Ltd (1947-1965), where he was consultant to mine management on coal marketing and utilisation, and on mechanical and electrical services to the company's mines, including coal cleaning and power generation.

He was also: a Member of the Institute of Chemical Engineers (MIChemE); a Senior Fellow of the Institute of Energy (SFInstE); and a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Energy (FIAE).
