Summary

David Branagan was one of Australia's foremost geologists, equally well-known for his work on Australia's geological history. For 30 years he taught in the Department of Geology an Geophysics at the University of Sydney, his principal areas of research being coal geology and mining, and engineering geology. Branagan produced over 200 publications, approximately half of which are concerned with the history of Australian geology and mineral exploration and the geologists and mineralogists involved. He was an active member of the Geological Society of Australia since its inception and was awarded Honorary Life membership in 1992.
