Summary
Geoffrey Sharman was Professor of Biology, School of Biological Sciences, Macquarie University, New South Wales 1970-1985. His research was in the area of mammalian evolutionary biology and his work included a description of the multiple sex chromosomes of the Black Tailed Wallaby and the Potoroo. He then went on to describe the phenomenon of dormant blastocysts in the Quokka and to demonstrate that in females kangaroos the paternal X-chromosome is invariably inactivated in somatic tissues. In 1966 Sharman became foundation Professor of Zoology at the University of New South Wales and in 1970 foundation Professor of Biological Sciences at Macquarie University.
