Summary

Qantas Empire Airways Limited was established in 1934 by the two airlines responsible for the Australia-London run, Australia's QANTAS Limited and Britain's Imperial Airways. In 1947 the Australian Government purchased the shares of the company previously owned by QANTAS Limited, making it the sole shareholder. Qantas Empire Airways therefore became a limited liability company. 1967 saw a name change for the company, becoming Qantas Airways Limited.
